History

Carnegie Swimming Club is one of the leading swimming clubs in Scotland and has a long and impressive tradition of sporting achievement. The club was established in 1877, making it one of the oldest swimming clubs in Great Britain.

Activities

Carnegie Swimming Club is a registered charity (Charity No. SC 030974).
It endeavours to provide a warm and caring environment for youngsters to meet, learn how to swim, and progress to competitive swimming. The club has a number of swimmers who compete at the highest levels, both nationally and internationally.

Location

The club is based in Dunfermline in Fife, Scotland and provides swim coaching for young swimmers from Fife and surrounding areas.

Organisation

Club Committee
The day-to-day management of the club is run by a management committee, which is re-elected each year at the Annual General Meeting. The management committee are all volunteers and are predominantly current or previous parents of swimmers within the club. There are various roles within the Committee ranging from President, Treasurer, Squad Reps, Gala Convenor, etc.

Coaching Team
The club has swimming coaches engaged on a self employed basis and also a voluntary basis. The coaches are currently a very strongly knit team who also have regular meetings on a monthly basis.

Swimming Squads
The swimmers are organised into four main squads, which is further subdivided into training squads. Swimming coaches are allocated to each squad and training session. The club is structured by swimming squads, as shown below.

Swimmers move between the squads based on performance criteria. The criteria details minimum ages to ensure swimmers are not pushed too hard too early, swimming times and skill sets that should be achieved.

The club also has swimming beginners classes in both Dunfermline at Carnegie Swimming Pool and Cowdenbeath Swimming Pool for those wishing to learn to swim.

Club Activities
The club organises a number of swimming related and social related events throughtout the year. These include:

  • Three swimming galas, catering for different age groups and abilities
  • Club Championship
  • Club Presentation Night
  • Swimming Training Camps
  • Time Trials
  • Fife Swimming League participant
  • Annual Christmas Party
